Artist's Statement/Biography

Picture
Up until 1995 Skytree Smith led a very normal little life. And then she  was introduced to glass.  She's had no formal training in glass blowing, but apprenticed with Doug Scott, and continued to learn her craft by assisting various glass artists, and with lots of experimentation.
Skytree is in awe of the planet she lives on, and this is reflected in much of her work. Her use of colour  resembles landscapes, water, sandstone, and much of her work is organic.
In 2010 Skytree's little dog Hawkmoon Bat died, and it occurred to her that cremated remains and glass may be an interesting combination. The results were beautiful, and thus began her most recent endeavours.  Skytree has recently earned her funeral director's license, and these pieces, posted here under the "Fire" page, allow her to combine her two passions.
